After painting dots for leaves, plants, and flowers for years, and always wanting to paint them more realistically, this spring I came to the conclusion that the only way to do this was simply to put in the time. Sit there and paint. Just do the work.
The following photos are from my new folder of plants as they come up in the spring, before flowering, to highlight the many shades of green and shapes of leaves. It's mind-boggling.

This small bunch of daffodils is always the first sign of Spring here at the farm, year after year, no matter that they get crushed by a late winter snow; ever hopeful, so inspirational, and a thrilling sight every year.
